The Interim Executive Director of Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cairo Ojougboh, recently appointed by Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has alleged that the commission was owning about N3 trillion to phantom contractors.
He stated this in Abuja on Sunday while speaking to journalists.
Ojougboh, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, said 10 audit firms had been engaged to audit the financial records of the NDDC.
He said: “The NDDC is owing over N3tn to phantom contractors. It is these contractors that are making this noise because they know the interim management will not compromise.
“The genuine contractors have not been paid while phantom contractors have been paid. Some of the contracts have been terminated but the contractors failed to return money.”
