Elder statesman and former Head of the Interim National Government who succeeded General Ibrahim Babangida after the annulment of the June 12 1993 Presidential election, Chief Earnest Shonekan is dead.
Chief Shonekan reportedly died in Lagos at the age of 85.
He served the country as the interim head of state and commander in chief between August 26 and November 17, 1993. Chief Shonekan was ousted from office in a coup de etat by the late General Sani Abacha.
